doc.: e Submission Power Consumption in Operation Procedure Power consumed during RF operation mainly contains P listen + P rx + P tx. (ArchRock 15-04) Much power might be wasted during P listen if there is too much idle time, so minimize listening duration. Such as –Original SF(superframe) structure leads to low throughput because at least half of the beacon interval in one network may be used for sleep mode as BO>SO. –Too many nodes working in shared time slots (SF overlap) might cause following problems: –Some nodes might overhear packets that destined to other nodes.
doc.: e Submission The General Power Saving Strategy on MAC Enhancements Efficient communication in low energy network. Efficient broadcast and multicast among low power devices. Effective ways of network discovery in low energy network. Enhancement of wakeup signal/chirp frame. - Different payload for different cases to facilitate future communication.
doc.: e Submission Suggest the following Basic Rules Only <1% Duty cycle can result in multi-year node life. In order to achieve multi-year life time, Vinno’s aim is to obtain a 0.5% duty cycle. Minimize listening time as much as possible, maybe just a couple of hundred micro seconds. Radio shall be turn off during sleep duration. Not just the radio part, the whole system shall be partly turned off during sleep duration. Therefore, a wakeup signal is required. Timing Control for Power Saving (1)
doc.: e Submission –Beacon interval can be adjusted for power saving oriented or low latency oriented –Applying high frequency clock for beacon sync to obtain high sync precision. –Applying low frequency clock for deep sleep mode to obtain low power consumption. –Since high sync precision is achieved, listening period can be minimized to lower than 200 us. Timing Control for Power Saving (1)
doc.: e Submission Coordinated Sampled Listen (CSL) Coordinated Sampled Listening (CSL) (Index from ArchRock proposal) –Add a new packet (chirp frame) as wakeup signal to assist CSL. –Improve ACK’s capability of packet reception acknowledgment as well as assisting CSL by changing ACK frame structure. –Multi-channel operation of CSL. Scheduled channel information is optionally included in ACK. –CSL can apply to the CAP or Inactive periods in the superframe turning them into low-energy CAP so that the radio doesn’t have to be always on or always off.
doc.: e Submission Extended Sampled Listening for Multiple Destination Huawei suggest the following extension: Multiple-streaming Include multiple destinations in one chirp frame Sender only chirps at the beginning of the multi-destination stream Receiver keeps listening when its address is in chirp frame Multicast/Broadcast - Include multicast/broadcast address in chirp frame - Sender only sends chirps at the beginning of the multicast/broadcast stream - Receivers keep listening when detecting multicast/broadcast address in chirp frame
doc.: e Submission Allocation over Sampled Listening New device sends back-to-back beacon requests (as chirp frame) to locate all coordinators within its POS Beacon request indicates when the new device will be ready to receive PAN information Coordinator keeps listening and then sends PAN information (PANID, coord’s address and schedule, etc.) The Allocation procedure as: –Duration of back-to-back beacon request will be lengthened (e.g. doubled) if new device doesn’t receive any packet after the previous duration –New device sends continually short duration of back-to-back beacon request to collect multiple coordinators’ responses
