2. When did modern humans reach the following places? a) Australia___4000 years ago______ b) the Americas__ years ago___ c) the Arctic_ years ago_______ d) the Pacific Islands __2000 years ago

Look at the map. Why do you think humans migrated to different parts of the world in that order? They started in Africa. Easier to travel by land than by sea. Some islands are a long distance from Africa.

1. Where do the Neanderthals get their name? The first skeletons were found in Germany’s Neander Valley.

2. How did Neanderthals look different from homo sapiens sapiens? Heavy set, shorter arms and legs, different type of face- protruding brow and jaw, large hands.

3. What caused Neanderthals to become extinct? Probably killed by Homo Sapien Sapien -murder, disease, displacement -Invaded by Homo Sapien Sapien from Africa.
