Much of CIPE’s work consists of helping strengthen associations in developing countries Promote best practices in association governance and management Help associations in wide range of areas, including strategic planning, membership development and policy advocacy

Association governance is extremely important Clear definition of respective roles of Board and management is key Transparency and accountability How to measure success?

Common weaknesses in associations in developing countries: Weak professional staff, over-reliance on volunteers Lack of recognition of association management as profession Lax enforcement of membership policies
