By the time the FCTC went into force in February 2005, 58 countries had ratified the treaty

As of May 2011, 173 countries have ratified the FCTC covering more than 87% of the world's population

By the end of 2008, 17 countries had implemented pictorial warning labels on tobacco packaging

As of May 2011, nearly 40 countries have implemented pictorial warning labels on tobacco packaging* * India and Peru do not meet FCTC standards on a warning label size (30% overall pack coverage)

In 2004, Ireland was the first country to enact 100% smoke-free legislation
