HEIFER INTERNATIONAL FALL 2009 Sixth Grade Service Project

What is Heifer International? A NONPROFIT ORGANIZATION DONATING DOMESTICALLY AND INTERNATIONALLY PROVIDING FARM ANIMALS TO IMPOVERISHED PEOPLE VOTED AS A TOP TEN CHARITY

What do they do? The Heifer Foundation raises money to purchase animals and supply trees to impoverished communities around the globe.

Heifer offers extensive training in animal care and earth-friendly farming practices, and teaches the many benefits that animals can provide for deserving families.

These are truly gifts that keep on giving. Receiving families spread the wealth by giving the offspring of their animals to other families in need.

This becomes a self-sustaining gift of knowledge; offering communities the opportunity to educate children and adults while providing a means of livelihood and instilling hope.

Heifer foundation donors learn about: Global Awareness Economics Civic Duty Principles of Understanding and Compassion

How can students help? Students can raise money to purchase animals that will help to sustain a family, and are able to select from the following varieties of livestock:

Animals Sheep: $120 Llama: $150 Honeybees: $30 Heifer:$500 Flocks of Ducks and Geese: $20

Animals Pig: $120 Flock of Chicks: $20 Trio of Rabbits: $60 Water Buffalo: $250 Trees: $60

Animals Knitting Basket (2 llamas, 2 sheep): $500 Milk Menagerie (1 heifer, 1 water buffalo, 2 goats): $1000

The Lewis Palmer 6 th Grade Team would like to work on this project for the year. Students will agree on which animal they would like to work toward and raise money for its purchase. Funds will be raised by: Producing a cookbook in the fall. All proceeds, after cost, will go toward the purchase of the selected animal, as well as a domestic, and local charity. Students may also participate in The Taste of Lewis Palmer Middle School on Nov. 12 th. Money raised will go towards our three charities. More details to follow about the Taste.

There will be more information to follow. If you are interested in learning more about Heifer International visit
