What are bullying behaviours and how can we stop them? Anti-Bullying Week 2014

What is a bully? A bully is…

Meet Sam Yesterday I forgot my snack, and Sam shared theirs with me My neighbour broke her leg so I walk her dog and help her carry things I’m a Make-A- Friend mentor at school. That means I help the younger kids when they’re sad Sam always helps tidy up the classroom after art and wet play, even without being asked I’ve got loads of friends – everyone always wants me on their team! Does Sam seem like a bully or not?

This is Nic Nic needs to tell us something

I’m new to the school. I only started last term. One of the kids in my class doesn’t like me. Jo picks on me a lot. Jo makes fun of my accent and lots of the other kids laugh at me. Sam’s one of the people who laughs. Sam is Jo’s best friend. When I started, Sam used to invite me to play at break. Then Jo said I couldn’t play any more. Now Sam tells the others I’m not allowed to play because Jo says so. When I made a mistake in maths yesterday, they laughed and said I must be stupid. I’m really sad and lonely.

Thanks for telling us, Nic. That was really brave. What do we think of Sam now? I didn’t know that I was bullying. I just thought I was having a laugh with my friend Jo. I guess I never thought how Nic must be feeling. I don’t like bullies. I’m really upset that I’ve been a bully to Nic. How can Sam help put things right?

What are some bullying behaviours? What’s the difference between a deliberate bully and an accidental bully? Do you think it’s any less hurtful to the person being bullied?

Sam became an accidental bully. What could Sam have done differently? Bullying isn’t about who we are – it’s about what we DO We’re ALL capable of being a bully

Beauty and the Beast As we watch, think about… Who are deliberate bullies? Who are accidental bullies? What bullying behaviours can we spot?

Who were deliberate bullies? Who were accidental bullies? What bullying behaviours did we spot? Beauty and the Beast
