Proportions—lesson 2 AM: Word Statements to proportions WP: Solve proportions

Ex 1 Set up proportions Two machines can complete 7 tasks every 3 days. Let t represent the number of tasks these machines can complete in a 30-day month. Write as a proportion.

Ex 2 Set up proportions Write as a proportion: 3 is to 8 as 9 is to x.

Ex 3 Set up proportions Four pounds of grass seed will cover 100 sq ft. Let p represent the number of pounds of seed needed to cover 780 sq ft. Write as a proportion.

Ex 4 Set up proportions The area of a set of rectangular pictures is held constant while the length and width may change. If the length is 14 the width is 5, write as a proportion when the width is 6.

Ex 5 Set up proportions The area of a set of rectangular pictures is held constant while the length and width may change. If the length is 7 the width is 3, write as a proportion when the width is 8.

Ex 6 Set up & Solve proportions A regional forestry division wanted to estimate the number of deer in a particular national park. They caught and tagged 76 deer and released them back into the park. Later they selected a sample of 225 deer. Of these 225 deer, 15 were tagged. What is the best estimate of the number of deer in the park?
