What is Independence Day? Independence Day, also known as the Fourth of July, is a federal holiday commemorating the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776, declaring independence from the Kingdom of Great Britain. Independence Day is marked by patriotic displays such as American Flags and red, white, and blue decorations. Independence Day celebrations often take place outdoors.

Fireworks Independence Day fireworks can be seen at night in most cities. Patriotic songs such as the national anthem “The Star-Spangled Banner” can be heard.

Parades Many towns and cities hold parades for citizens to enjoy.

Picnics Families often celebrate Independence Day by having or going to a picnic or barbecue.

Carnivals Some towns and cities set up carnivals for children.
