Wassily Kandinsky’s Early Life Wassily Kandinsky was born on December 16, 1886 in Moscow, Russia. He was born into a merchant family. His parents were pianists. They were divorced and Wassily was taken care of by his aunt. He spent his childhood in Odessa. He played the piano and cello when he was young. He was trained by many teachers.

Biography Wassily Kandinsky was a famous painter, printmaker, and theorist. He was one of the most famous 20 th century artists. He went to the University of Moscow and studied law and economics in After that he was offered a professorship at the University of Dorpat and started taking painting classes at the age of thirty. He went to a private school called “Academy of Fine Arts” in Munich. After that he went back to Moscow in 1914 and returned to Germany.

Continued Biography… In Germany he taught at the Bauhaus school of art and architectures. Wassily Kandinsky had three wives. The first one was Anna Chimyakina which was Wassily’s cousin, the second one was Gabrielle Munter. They were together 16 years and then had a love affair. The last one was Nina Andreevskaya, she was Russian and was 27 years younger than him.
