TISSUES!

OBJECTIVES  Students will learn about the four different types of tissues that make up organs.

Epithelial Tissue  Epithelial tissue is used for protection, secretion, absorption and filtration.  It protects the body from dirt, dust and bacteria.  The skin is primarily made of Epithelial tissue!

Connective Tissue  The body consists mostly of connective tissues.  Connective tissues protect and support the body.  Connective tissues are found in cartilage, bones, blood and lymph.

Muscle Tissue  There are three types of muscle tissues: skeletal, smooth and cardiac.  Skeletal is used in the contraction of skeletal parts (voluntary). An example is when you move your hands and arms.  Smooth is found in blood vessels and internal organs (involuntary).  Cardiac is found in the heart (involuntary). An example could be heartbeat.

Nerve Tissue  Nerve tissues allow your body to receive stimuli and conduct impulses to and from all parts of the body.  A stimuli is anything that causes you to have a reaction.  An impulse is a strong desire to act a certain way.
