Cooling System
1. List the basic parts of a cooling system: -Thermostat -Fan -Water pump -Radiator -Ethelyne glycole -Shroud
Cooling System How is air cooling different than water cooling? Air cooling uses no liquid, just air. It uses fins connected to the engine, but water cooling uses a radiator only, no fins on the engine. Water cooling uses tubes and passages, air cooling does not.
Cooling System 3. What is the function of the cooling system? It removes surplus or unwanted heat. It must maintain an efficient temperature under all operating conditions. It must bring a cold engine up to operating temperature as quick as possible.
Servicing The Cooling System 1. Examine the coolant recovery tank on most vehicles to check the coolant level.
Servicing The Cooling System 2.Mix water and antifreeze at 50 to 50 to give the best protection against freezing or boiling over.
Servicing The Cooling System 3. The radiator cap should release at a specified setting when tested.
5.Removing a radiator cap can be very dangerous due to the fact it is under pressure when the engine is hot.
Servicing The Cooling System 4. Use a cooling system pressure tester to check for leaks.
