The Goal is ultimately the piece of the Vision that your objectives tie into to If you would like to make the Goal statement more specific to your objectives, then in addition to the Vision elements already included in the goal, you can provide the key headlines in terms of the ultimate end state that will be achieved in relation to your specific objective(s) 4 Confirming the Goal… Ensuring that the GOAL statement is a collective statement that articulates the end/future state, underpinned by the individual objectives © Four Points Consulting Ltd. All rights reserved. Source Contact us at

The description of the objectives should be Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant and if appropriate, Time-bound The description of the objective needs to be Outcome/Results-focused and described as such The Scope of the objective should be stated both in terms of what is in-scope for the delivery of that objective and also what is out-of-scope A link should also be established with the relevant Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats that will be addressed through achieving the particular objective Measures of Success or Key Performance Indicators should also be attached to each objective (with an indication of the current baseline performance where relevant) 5 Finalising Objectives… Ensuring that the individual OBJECTIVES tell a consistent story across the board and roll-up to show how the goal will be achieved © Four Points Consulting Ltd. Articulate the enabling strategies that will allow achievement of the objective If those strategies are generic, then ensure the specific definition of those strategies are articulated in the individual plans The Strategies should provide the headlines as to HOW the objectives will be achieved and provide the backdrop to the tactics 6 Establishing Strategies…. Moving from the WHAT to the HOW © Four Points Consulting Ltd. All rights reserved. Source Contact us at

If you know how you will deliver the objective then the plan of tactics needs to include:  Solutions and answers already known  Key projects and initiatives  Milestones  Required resources  Anticipated costs  Projected benefits 7 Defining Tactics…… If some research is required before the objective can be delivered then the plan of tactics needs to include:  Unanswered questions / areas of exploration  Overall approach to this research phase of the objective  Required resources  Milestones In both cases, the following elements should be included in any plan of tactics  Risks  Assumptions  Issues  Dependencies / Imperatives  Implications  Interdependencies (between objectives or departments)  Stakeholder involvement  Communication Messages Defining the HOW in specific detail © Four Points Consulting Ltd.
