Cloud Computing Presented by Alicia Wallis and Kerri Warf

Cloud Computing Many different ideas of what it is but the most common is: virtual servers available over the internet What it does? – increases capacity – adds capabilities without investing in new infrastructure, training new personnel, or licensing new software Includes any subscription based or pay-per-use service that increases IT’s existing capabilities in real time over the internet Some different types are: – SaaS (software as a service), – utility computing, – services in the clouds, – platform as a service, – managed service providers (MSP)

Security issues in cloud computing Privileged user access Regulatory compliance Data segregation Recovery Investigative support Long term viability

Cloud Controls Passwords Exception Monitoring Systems Independent Security Audits Company Cloud Security Policies Problem: General lack of specific policies for security or data privacy due to newness of technology

Security Issues Example: Google Docs Lack of embedded images protection Ability to see previous file revisions Unauthorized access
