 The sound of language  Alliteration  Consonance  Assonance

 A poem is a tapestry of sound as well as meaning.  Sound:Poem :: Color:Painting  Thematic use of sounds add to the aestheticism of a piece.  Rhyme isn’t the only way to incorporate repeating sounds.

 Definition: when words with the same starting sounds sit side by side.

 Definition: repetition of a certain consonant sound throughout a written piece.  Does not have to be in any particular part of each word  Although if it follows a pattern of being in the stressed or unstressed parts, that’s even more awesome.  Ex. The fox built clocks from bricks and blocks.

 Definition: repetition of a certain vowel sound throughout a written piece.  Does not have to be in any particular part of each word  Although if it follows a pattern of being in the stressed or unstressed parts, that’s even more awesome.  Ex. Hear the mellow wedding bells
