Part 2 – Water to Wine

On the third day there was a wedding in Cana of Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there. 2 Now both Jesus and His disciples were invited to the wedding. 3 And when they ran out of wine, the mother of Jesus said to Him, “They have no wine.” 4 Jesus said to her, “Woman, what does your concern have to do with Me? My hour has not yet come.” 5 His mother said to the servants, “Whatever He says to you, do it.” 6 Now there were set there six waterpots of stone, according to the manner of purification of the Jews, containing twenty or thirty gallons apiece. 7 Jesus said to them, “Fill the waterpots with water.” And they filled them up to the brim. 8 And He said to them, “Draw some out now, and take it to the master of the feast.” And they took it. 9 When the master of the feast had tasted the water that was made wine, and did not know where it came from (but the servants who had drawn the water knew), the master of the feast called the bridegroom. 10 And he said to him, “Every man at the beginning sets out the good wine, and when the guests have well drunk, then the inferior. You have kept the good wine until now!” 11 This beginning of signs Jesus did in Cana of Galilee, and manifested His glory; and His disciples believed in Him. Jn. 2:1-11

Water To Wine Jn. 2:1-11  Marriage Feast  7-14 Days - financial ability of bridegroom  Cana of Galilee  Mary - mother of Jesus Jesus, and His disciples

The Miracle  Time – Jn. 2:1 “third day”  Occasion – Jn. 2:2 “marriage feast”  Emergency – Jn. 2:3-5 “ran out of wine”  Miracle – Jn. 2:6-10

The Miracle

 It was Genuine  Jesus shortened the process  Jesus has power over all things - Heb. 1:3 “by the word of His power”  Jesus will change our bodies at resurrection - Phil. 3:21 “Who shall change our vile body” - 1 Cor. 15:51 “we shall all be changed” The Miracle

Conversation with His Mother  “What does your concern have to do with Me?”  Submitted completely to God Jn. 5:30 “will of the Father who sent me” Jn. 6:38 “…not to do My own will”  “My hour is not yet come”  Mary took her problem to Jesus

Beginning of Miracles “This beginning of miracles did Jesus in Cana of Galilee, and manifested forth His glory; and His disciples believed on Him.” Jn. 2:11 Not His last Jn. 20:30-31 “many other signs” Jn. 21:25 “many other things which Jesus did”

Lessons we can learn 1. Jesus was no Ascetic - Ascetic = abstain from any pleasures - Well rounded man - Weep and rejoice - Rom. 12:15 2. Jesus Honored Marriage 1 Tim. 4:1-3 “Forbidding to marry” Heb. 13:4 “Marriage is honorable among all” Gen. 2:18 ordained of God 3. Jesus possessed super-human powers

1.Fermented 2.Fruit on the vine - Isa. 65:8 “wine is found in the cluster” 3.Intoxicating Prov. 20:1 “Wine is a mocker, Strong drink is a brawler, And whoever is led astray by it is not wise” Prov. 23:31-32 “bites like a serpent and stings like a viper”

Jesus would not make the kind prohibited: Isa. 5:11-12 “Woe to those who rise early in the morning, that they may follow intoxicating drink; who continue until night, till wine inflames them! The harp and the strings, The tambourine and flute, and wine are in their feasts; but they do not regard the work of the LORD, nor consider the operation of His hands”

Jesus would not make the kind prohibited: Hab. 2:15 “Woe to him who gives drink to his neighbor, pressing him to your bottle, even to make him drunk, that you may look on his nakedness”

Governor said v. 10 “well drunk” Does not endorse drunkenness “well drunk” - “well fed” “methuo” “filled up” Ps. 23:5 “thy cup runneth over”

“He has done all things well” Mk. 7:37
