Works Cited Page Begin your Works Cited page on the next blank page at the end of your paper. It should have the same one-inch margins and last name, page.

MLA Works Cited Stephen Smark Heather Smith

Basic layout of the Works Cited page.  Use the same margins, header, and footer as the rest of the paper.  The title should be Works Cited, centered at the top of the page, with no quotation marks or underlining.  The entire document should be double spaced with no skipped spaces between citations.

Works Cited page cont.  Capitalize the titles of articles and books, etc.  Larger works (books, magazines) should be underlined or italicized, while smaller works (articles, poems) should be in quotation marks.  The authors’ names should be listed Last, First Middle, without titles (Dr., PhD) but with suffixes (Jr., Sr., III).

Basic formats for common citations  Electronic: Name of Site. Date of Posting/Revision. Name of institution/organization affiliated with the site (sometimes found in copyright statements). Date you accessed the site..  Periodical: Author(s). "Title of Article." Title of Periodical Day Month Year: pages. –If the source was originally printed, but was found in an online database, you must provide the reader with the information to find it both in print and online.  Book: Last name, First name. Title of Book. Place of Publication: Publisher, Year of Publication. Information for more detailed formatting can be found at

This website is helpful when you need to makes citations. Just choose the type of citation you need, fill in the information it asks for, and it will format your citation for you. Make sure you double check your citation because the machine may occasionally format your citation incorrectly.
