MODULE 1 Module 1: Developing 21 st Century Skills Preview: In this module, we will:  Identify essential skills that will help your students enter the 21 st century workplace successfully.  Compare classrooms of today with those of tomorrow.  Learn about the course  You will also have a chance to introduce yourself.

MODULE 1 Group forming Activity  We should have 5 groups for today’s work.  Please count 1-5.

MODULE 1 Exercise 1: Identifying Essential Skills  Step 1: When students graduate from your school system, what is essential for them to know and to be able to do to be successful in the 21 st century workplace?  Working in your group, discuss your answers, and record them on the lines provided on page 7.  WHAT IS YOUR ROLE: FACILITATOR/RECORDER/PARTICIPANTS/ PRESENTER? MODULE 1 Exercise 1: Identifying Essential Skills  As workplaces, homes, and citizens change, schools must change, too. Read the list of 21 st century skills on page 9. Is there anything missing from the list?

MODULE 1 Exercise 2: Comparing Classrooms of Today with Classrooms of Tomorrow.  Step 2: Share your reflections. Talk about the experience of your partner.  Read the comparison table on pp Which of them have you used in your classroom?  Step 3: Why might students like 21 st century, student- centered approaches?

MODULE 1 Within each technology area, you:  Begin with a technology introduction, exploration, and discussion. (Ex: Module 4)  Next complete a required activity.  Then select and complete at least one relevant elective activity.  Conclude by sharing your work with colleagues and discussing and reflecting on productivity and professional practices.
