Enhancing partnership among Africa RISING, NAFAKA and TUBORESHE CHAKULA Programs for fast tracking delivery and scaling of agricultural technologies in Tanzania Haroon Sseguya Technology Scaling Specialist Overview: Year 1 progress

Background Goal: Accelerate the scaling and delivery of agricultural technologies to improve smallholder maize- and rice- farming systems, household nutrition, and dietary practices in Tanzania Scaling - Expanding, adapting and sustaining successful policies, programs and projects in different places and over time to reach a greater number of people

Objectives 1.Introducing and promoting improved and resilient varieties of food crops (maize-legume, rice, vegetables); 2.Disseminating best-bet agronomic management packages; 3.Protecting land and water resources and foster agricultural biodiversity; 4.Introducing and promoting postharvest management; technologies to reduce losses and bring quality up to market standards; 5.Enhancing capacities of local communities.

Targets  USAID FtF investments in the Zone of Influence:  having at least 47,000 households with access to the technologies to diversify and increase their food supply and income sources, and improve the quality of degrading smallholder cropland;  expanding the area under improved rice production technologies by at least 58,000 ha;  increasing yields of both maize and rice by 50% per unit area as a result of these technologies being adopted.
