The Arctic is northernmost part of the earth, also the Arctic is home to the North pole. Did you know that Arctic means “near the bear” which is Greek. The record for the coldest temperature in the Arctic is -68*C= very cold. Over recent years, the Arctic region has shrunk due to global warming.

Antarctica is the southernmost continent on earth. The name Antarctica means “opposite to the north.” Around 90% of earths ice is found in Antarctica. Antarctica is larger than Europe and almost double the size of Australia. Most of Antarctica is covered in ice over 1.6 kilometres thick [1 mile] The south pole is found in Antarctica.
