EXPLORING HOW TO BUILD AND EFFECTIVE, KNOWLEDGEABLE, AND MOTIVATED WORKFORCE Making The Case for Employee Development

Why Are We Here? Studies have shown that organizations that invest in employee development programs, develop a workforce that has a more positive outlook on their value in their current positions and feel more positive about their ability to grow and transition into future positions. As we focus on how to build and retain a stronger workforce, let us explore the benefits to implementing employee development programs.

Different Approaches to Employee Development Today we will explore three different approaches to employee development. The goal is not to choose only one type of program but to identify how we can provide options to our employees that will demonstrate our vested interest in their growth. The three approaches we will explore are: Formal Education Temporary Assignments and Projects Job Experiences

Formal Education Providing an option for formal education allows our employees to return to school or gain knowledge that they can apply to their current or future positions. Local University Programs: Rutgers University offers an onsite programs such as MBA or Lean Six Sigma courses. Making tuition reimbursement or assistance available will help employees look for external programs at accredited colleges and universities.

Projects and Volunteer Work Our employees stay with our company due to their strong commitment to our organization values. Working on projects or allowing employees to do volunteer work on company time,. It gives employees the opportunity to work with other employees and develop skills that they may not have the opportunity to strengthen in their daily positions.

Job Experiences Employee development can also take place through experiential learning. We can structure experiential learning through the following approaches: Job Rotation Cross Training Transfers Special Projects

Closing Remarks If we already know the benefits of an organization having a workforce that feels valued, and feels there is an opportunity for growth and development. The question is not IF we implement employee development programs but when.
