What is the PSAT? Practice version of the SAT For juniors: A chance to qualify for the National Merit Scholarship Program For everyone: A chance to find out “where you stand” so that you can prepare effectively for the real SAT

Critical Reading 1 25 minutes Writing 30 minutes Total Time: 2 hours, 10 minutes The PSAT Critical Reading 2 25 minutes Math 2 25 minutes Math 1 25 minutes

Section Scores Each section is scored out of 80 points (240 total) For each section, you receive a score, a score range, and a percentile rank

Total Score (Selection Index) Selection index = sum of section scores = out of 240 Percentile = What percent of college-bound juniors in your state did you score higher than? PSAT index  SAT score: Add a zero 146 PSAT = 1460 SAT

Going from the PSAT to the SAT 95+ percent of the same type of content There are only three differences between the PSAT and SAT: 1. The SAT is slightly harder 2. The SAT has a 25-minute essay 3. The SAT is much longer (~4 hrs.)!

The ACT The ACT has four sections: English, Reading, Math, and Science, as well as an optional essay Each section is scored on a scale from 1 to 36 The national average for each section is roughly 21
