The PSAT also known as the Preliminary SAT or National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (NMSQT) is a standardized test administered by the College Board and cosponsored by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation in the United States. 4 You take the PSAT then what?
Take the SAT After taking the PSAT/NMSQT, taking the SAT is required for consideration for the scholarship. If interested in National Merit Scholarship, the SAT must be taken before October of your senior year. How to Secure National Merit Of the 3.5 million PSAT/NMSQT, 1.6 million are Juniors. Only 16,000 will become Semifinalists. 15,000 will become Finalists. 7,500 will receive the scholarship.

7 The ACT and the SAT In 2012, the ACT began having more test takers than the SAT. Over the past 6 the ACT has only increased the margin. In 2015, the College Board in response redesigned their test to be more competitive with the ACT. The first redesigned was the PSAT in 2015 with the first SAT in 2016. ACT also changed the ACT in 2015 with a complete overhaul to the Writing portion as well as other changes across all sections. Both the College Board and the ACT Company are competing for a chance to be educational standard for K – 12. The College Board changed the SAT to be similar to the ACT. Essentially focusing on more high school related information rather than “testing tricks”.

10 SAT Subject Tests Subjects Math Level 1 and 2 Chemistry, Biology (Eco or Mol), Physics U.S. History, World History Spanish, French, Chinese, Italian, German, Modern Hebrew, Latin, Japanese, Korean Incorrect Answers have a PENALTY! Usually a ¼ point deduction, but vary on the number of options. (We recommend skipping the question if you have no clue!) Testing Time: 1 hour Subject Tests are not offered at all test dates.
