2006  MEADOWBANK GOLD PROJECT Cumberland Resources Ltd. NOISE EIS

2006  Determine background sound level  Calculate permissible sound level (PSL)  Identify major noise sources for construction and operation phases  Predict ambient noise levels  Compare predicted levels to PSL MEADOWBANK GOLD PROJECT Scope Noise Impact Overview

2006 Background Noise & Permissible Sound Level  Background noise levels are similar to those monitored in the remote areas of Northern Alberta -42 dBA daytime -35 dBA nighttime  Permissible sound level is based on Noise Control Directive of the Alberta Energy and Utilities Board (EUB) for remote locations defined for a location 1,500 m from the noise source -55 dBA daytime -45 dBA nighttime

2006 Noise Sources  Main noise sources: -construction equipment -the primary crusher -power plant -haul trucks -drills -excavators -loaders -production blast

2006 Noise Modelling  SPM9613 noise prediction model with the following assumptions -modelling includes major noise sources (the primary crusher, screens, excavators, drills, mills, and haul trucks) -mining noise sources are located at the bottom of the pit -24/7 continuous operation

2006 Sound Level Isopleths  Accommodation zone predicted noise levels will be 60 to 65 dBA

2006 Sound Level Isopleths Project zone predicted noise levels A – Vault site; B – Vault haul road; C – plant site and tailings / waste site; D – Goose Island site

2006 Monitoring Ambient noise monitoring during construction and operation

2006 Mitigation  Avoid trucking operation during nighttime, where possible  Select vehicles with minimum noise output including tire noise, exhaust and compressor/fan noise and check that noise abatement devices are in good order  Position equipment in sheltered locations, e.g. behind the earth berms if possible  Place crushers in sheltered/enclosed locations if possible

2006 Summary  Elevated noise levels will be observed close to the noisy equipment  Noise levels will decrease with the distance from sources  Mining noise will be restricted to the pit area  Noise levels will be monitored  Mitigation methods will be implemented to control noise levels
