Presentation transcript:

Engineering Degree Requirements Both four-year and five-year curricula of a College of Engineering Bachelor of Science program are founded on a common core of coursework required by all students. Coursework is designed to give each student a thorough foundation of knowledge on which specialization studies and a professional career can be based.

Emphasis on Five Key Elements Development of communication skills Familiarity with social sciences and humanities Solid base in science and mathematics Strong foundation in basic engineering sciences Applications and design experience in a specialized field

The prospective engineering major must take a minimum of 35 credit hours of engineering core (foundation coursework drawn from the major disciplines). Coursework is designed to equip the student with a sound technical foundation for later, more advanced specialized coursework, and the eventual formation of professional judgement. This coursework includes introductory studies in such areas as engineering analysis and computation, statistics, electrical engineering principles, thermodynamics, statistics, dynamics, fluids, and properties of materials. Coursework

Requirements All students are required to take 45 semester hours to satisfy the complete liberal arts requirements. Thirty six (36) semester hours will satisfy the general education course requirements Nine (9) semester hours will satisfy the exit requirements

General Education Requirement English Composition (6 sem. hrs.) Quantitative Methods (6 sem. hrs.) Natural Sciences (6 sem. hrs.) Social Sciences (6 sem. hrs.) Historical Perspectives (6 sem. hrs.) Fine Arts (3 sem. hrs.) African, Latin American, Middle Eastern or Asian Perspectives (3 sem. hrs.)

Non-technical courses Social Sciences, Humanities, Communications (34 Semester Hours) Mathematics, Chemistry, and Physics (Minimum 35 Semester Hours) Basic Engineering Science (Minimum 36 Semester Hours) Department Specialization (31 Semester Hours) Total 136 Semester Hours
