ANTI-BULLYING STRATEGY Everyone’s Responsibility

10/24/2015 It is vital that Perth & Kinross schools and learning communities are safe, secure, healthy and happy places for our children and young people to attend. Getting it right for every child is the responsibility of everyone; ensuring that all children and young people are nurtured and supported to become confident individuals, effective contributors, successful learners and responsible citizens. Everyone’s Responsibility

How Can Bullying Behaviour Make You Feel?

10/24/2015

Do We Need an Anti-Bullying Strategy? “We need to stop bullying so that everyone feels equally important and so people can be themselves” (Secondary School Pupil) “If nobody bullied then people would like coming to school, they wouldn’t be worried, they would concentrate more and get a better education” (Primary School Pupil) “Bullying can have an effect on so many things in your life- your school work, your social life, and your confidence.” (Secondary School Pupil)

10/24/2015 The Values Underpinning The Strategy “Ensure everyone is included and that everyone has the same opportunities.” “Make sure everyone is treated with respect.” “Everyone should be involved in tackling bullying as it’s everyone’s responsibility” “If there was no bullying everyone would be happier and we could trust each other a lot more”

10/24/2015 What do we hope to achieve through this strategy? Communication Commitment Consistency Clarity Cooperation Capacity Communication Commitment Consistency Clarity Cooperation Capacity

10/24/2015 What is bullying behaviour? Bullying behaviour can make people feel hurt, threatened, frightened and left out. It can be verbal, physical, and emotional or involve online conduct which is unwanted and uninvited. The behaviour may be intentional or unintentional, can cause physical or emotional harm, may be repeated over time or be a one-off incident.

10/24/2015 Bullying is a combination of behaviours and the impact they have, behaviours including Physical Verbal Emotional Prejudice-based bullying Cyber What is bullying behaviour?

10/24/2015 How Will Bullying Behaviour be Prevented? It comes back to the 6 Cs Communication Commitment Consistency Clarity Cooperation Capacity

10/24/2015 How are schools and learning communities expected to respond to bullying behaviour? Schools and learning communities need to respond appropriately by addressing the needs of children and young people who experience bullying behaviour as well as those who exhibit these behaviours. …… carried out within a framework of respect, responsibility, resolution and support. The strategy outlines approaches to this.

10/24/2015 How should incidents of bullying behaviour be recorded? Not every incident is an incident of bullying behaviour. A record sheet has been produced to reflect the strategy Schools can continue to keep records using their current system, provided the current system takes account of everything that is on the record sheet. A Flowchart, that may be used as a guide for managing incidents of bullying behaviour, has been added to the strategy.

10/24/2015 Next Steps Official local authority launch of the policy is Thursday 21 st November, National Anti- Bullying Week. Schools will review their own policies with their Learning Community in light of the new Strategy. Training to raise awareness and ensure that all staff and members of the learning community have the skills to recognise, respond and take action appropriately.
