300 th Anniversary In 2007 our school celebrated its 300 th Anniversary. The new building is 40 years old. The top photograph shows the old building.

300 th Anniversary – Willow Dome We did many exciting things to celebrate the anniversary. We built a living willow dome to play in.

300 th Anniversary We built a Willow dome and two other sculptures for school.

300 th Anniversary - Mosaic A pebble mosaic at the front of school was designed by children in Year 4. Mrs Thomas directed operations.

300 th Anniversary - Mosaic This mosaic is for inside school. It is a tiled mosaic based on our school logo. Mrs Needham designed it and many of the children throughout school spent time working on it.

300 th Anniversary - Dancing We learned to do old fashioned maypole dancing and country dancing. We had a dance festival on our school playground.

300 th Anniversary – Open Day We invited back all past pupils and teachers for an open day and had a big celebration cake.

300 th Anniversary - History We learnt that school was very different three hundred years ago.

300 th Anniversary - Gifts To celebrate the 300 th Anniversary Lund Church gave us this cross as a present. The Hornby Trust gave us a new library.

300 th Anniversary – Improving our school environment

300 th Anniversary – Improving the Grounds We moved the school flag pole to a more prominent place and the old sundial was moved around the back of school where it would get more sun.

300 th Anniversary -Displays We created displays around school about the history of our school for everyone to enjoy.

300 th Anniversary – John Hornby Our headteacher Mr Bird dressed as John Hornby. John Hornby was a gentleman farmer who left money to build our school 300 years ago. He wanted to help out boys and girls who could not afford to go to school.

300 th Anniversary – Balloon Race At the end of the celebrations we released blue balloons for a balloon race. The furthest travelled to Skegness in Lincolnshire.

300 th Anniversary We are very grateful to John Hornby for leaving us a fantastic school. We consider ourselves very lucky to have been at Newton Bluecoat to celebrate the 300 th Anniversary.
