Culture Culture is the sum of beliefs, habits, customs and behaviors of a group of people. Every culture in the world is unique and filled with history, from the Japanese custom of not wearing shoes inside a house to the mix match culture that has formed the United States of America.

Check out some of the major countries of the world!!!! Click on a country and learn some interesting facts about their culture! Mexico Canada France United Kingdoms Spain Japan China Russia

Think you’ve explored enough? Try out the Culture Challenge!

Japan The Japanese way of greeting is bowing. The way one bows depends on the social status of the person he or she is greeting. If this other person has a higher status, one should bow lower and longer. Shaking hands, on the other hand, is not common among the Japanese; however, they often do so when greeting a foreigner.

Mexico The primary language spoken by Mexican people is Spanish, brought to the region by Hernán Cortéz and his men when they arrived from Spain to conquer the land in the name of the Spanish Crown. However, more than sixty two different native languages are still spoken by several Mexican people, mainly in rural areas. This makes Mexico the most idiomatically diverse country in the entire world.

Russia Russians are more likely to be cautious and conservative defenders of the status quo. Their cruel climate, harsh history, and skeptical outlook on life has caused Russians to value stability, security, social order, and predictability, avoiding risk. The tried and tested is preferred over the new and unknown. Americans, as a nation of risk-takers, can have their patience tested by Russian caution, and anticipation of the negative.

China Red is central to the wedding theme of China. It signifies love, joy and prosperity. The bride's wedding gown is often red, as are the wedding invitations, wedding gift boxes or envelopes for cash gifts. Even the bride and groom's homes are decorated in red on the wedding day

United Kingdoms The united kingdoms isn’t just a single country but several countries all joined together! It also has one of the most spoken languages anywhere!

France French people address each other with formality, calling each other Madame, Mademoiselle or Monsieur in a way which may seem formulaic to outsiders, but signifies a respect for the individual which permeates the French way of life.

Canada Canadians come from many different racial and religious backgrounds. Consequently, it is not easy to define a typical Canadian family. Although the majority of Canadians are Catholic or Protestant, many belong to other religions. Some cultural characteristics, however, are shared by most Canadians.

Spain Younger teenagers [beginning at about fourteen or fifteen] go out together in groups. Sometimes, even after a couple starts dating, they may be chaperoned [usually an older brother of the girl or a good and trusted friend of the girl's family! The young man must go to the girl's father with his intention of marriage. If the father agrees, then a marriage will take place. They take it seriously because once the two are wed, the two families are considered joined as well. Engagements often last for a few years. All prior obligations [education] must be completed by the young man. The boy must also be financially "established". After the couple is wed, they often live with the wife's family for a time. [usually until they have become firmed established financially].
