Strategic Funding Partners Conference Thursday 21 November Hilton Edinburgh Grosvenor Hotel

Aims To share good practice in self-evaluation and improvement To share new tools to help you with self- evaluation To discuss plans to evaluate the overall effectiveness of the SFP model To provide an opportunity for networking

The Corporate Plan A vision for education in ScotlandA model for driving improvementThe role of Education ScotlandOur commitments to action

The vision Learners in Scotland will progress in one of the most effective education systems in the world, renowned for the ability of national and local partners to work flexibly together to achieve high quality and equitable outcomes for all

BETTER LEARNING applied and developed flexibly in local contexts impact evaluated at multiple levels knowledge drawn out about ‘what works’ knowledge spread effectively to practitioners external research and intelligence Creating a virtuous cycle of improvement

Our mission – working with our partners To provide a national infrastructure which makes this virtuous cycle a reality…. We will provide the best blend of national support and challenge to inspire and secure continuous improvement in experiences and opportunities for all learners in Scotland.

Our objectives  Build a world-class curriculum for all learners  Promote high quality professional learning and leadership amongst education practitioners  Build the capacity of education providers to improve their performance continuously  Provide independent evaluation of education provision  Influence national policy through evidence based advice  Improve our organisational capability and invest in our people

Achieving the vision will mean…..  Educational outcomes for all learners are improving  Inequity in educational outcomes is eradicated  Public confidence in education is high

Today’s event Supporting your own self-evaluation and improvement Outlining our role in evaluating the SFP model Networking and sharing good practice Hearing about the Government’s commitment to Third Sector Organisations

Does our approach to self- evaluation…. the quality of our work? prove or improve prove or improve

Key messages Looking inwards, looking outwards, looking forwards Smart, streamlined coherent approach which tells your story in a clear and evaluative way Don’t spend all your time on the process of gathering and collating information Keep evidence proportionate, impact-based, focused

Key messages – strong practice is often… Precise, focused Forensic in the analysis of impact and outcomes Practice-based rather than just paper-based Able to generate specific strengths and areas for improvement

Living the vision, values and aims In one organisation the Director asked everyone to start every meeting or external engagement by agreeing which of the organisation’s aims they are helping to achieve. This helped everyone to understand how their daily activities were helping to realise the organisation’s vision.

Excellence is the result of: caring more than others think is wise; risking more than others think is safe; dreaming more than others think is practical; and expecting more than others think is possible.
