How To Not Get Caught Week 1- When Temptation Wins

WHAT HAPPENS TO OUR LIVES WHEN TEMPTATION WINS? 1. It robs us of our _______________ CONFIDENCE

WHAT HAPPENS TO OUR LIVES WHEN TEMPTATION WINS? 1. It robs us of our _______________ And [Simon Peter] said to Him, Lord, I am ready to go with You both to prison and to death. But Jesus said, I tell you, Peter, before a [single] cock shall crow this day, you will three times [utterly] deny that you know Me.- Luke 22:33-34 CONFIDENCE

WHAT HAPPENS TO OUR LIVES WHEN TEMPTATION WINS? 1. It robs us of our _______________ And the Lord turned and looked at Peter. And Peter recalled the Lord's words, how He had told him, Before the cock crows today, you will deny Me thrice. 62 And he went out and wept bitterly [that is, with painfully moving grief].- Luke 22:61-62 CONFIDENCE

WHAT HAPPENS TO OUR LIVES WHEN TEMPTATION WINS? 1. It robs us of our _______________ 2. It leads to _____________________ CONFIDENCE BIGGER PROBLEMS

Judges 16:4-5 Some time later, he fell in love with a woman in the Valley of Sorek whose name was Delilah. 5 The rulers of the Philistines went to her and said, "See if you can lure him into showing you the secret of his great strength and how we can overpower him so we may tie him up and subdue him. Each one of us will give you eleven hundred shekels of silver.”

Judges 16: 6, 17 6 So Delilah said to Samson, "Tell me the secret of your great strength and how you can be tied up and subdued." 17 So he told her everything. "No razor has ever been used on my head," he said, "because I have been a Nazirite set apart to God since birth. If my head were shaved, my strength would leave me, and I would become as weak as any other man."

Judges 16: Then she called, "Samson, the Philistines are upon you!" He awoke from his sleep and thought, "I'll go out as before and shake myself free." But he did not know that the LORD had left him. 21 Then the Philistines seized him, gouged out his eyes and took him down to Gaza. Binding him with bronze shackles, they set him to grinding in the prison.

WHAT HAPPENS TO OUR LIVES WHEN TEMPTATION WINS? 1. It robs us of our _______________ 2. It leads to _____________________ 3. It brings death to _________________ CONFIDENCE BIGGER PROBLEMS RELATIONSHIPS

Joshua 6:17-19 The city and all that is in it are to be devoted to the LORD. But keep away from the devoted things, so that you will not bring about your own destruction by taking any of them. Otherwise you will make the camp of Israel liable to destruction and bring trouble on it. All the silver and gold and the articles of bronze and iron are sacred to the LORD and must go into his treasury."

Joshua 7:1 But the Israelites acted unfaithfully in regard to the devoted things; Achan son of Carmi, the son of Zimri, the son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, took some of them. So the LORD's anger burned against Israel.

Joshua 7:21 When I saw in the plunder a beautiful robe from Babylonia, two hundred shekels of silver and a wedge of gold weighing fifty shekels, I coveted them and took them. They are hidden in the ground inside my tent, with the silver underneath."

Joshua 7:24-25 Then Joshua, together with all Israel, took Achan son of Zerah, the silver, the robe, the gold wedge, his sons and daughters, his cattle, donkeys and sheep, his tent and all that he had, to the Valley of Achor. 25 Joshua said, "Why have you brought this trouble on us? The LORD will bring trouble on you today.“ Then all Israel stoned him, and after they had stoned the rest, they burned them.

WHAT HAPPENS TO OUR LIVES WHEN TEMPTATION WINS? 4. It makes us feel like ______________ HYPOCRITES

Matthew 26:14-15 Then one of the Twelve—the one called Judas Iscariot—went to the chief priests and asked, "What are you willing to give me if I hand him over to you?" So they counted out for him thirty silver coins.

Matthew 27:3-5 When Judas, who had betrayed him, saw that Jesus was condemned, he was seized with remorse and returned the thirty silver coins to the chief priests and the elders. 4 "I have sinned," he said, "for I have betrayed innocent blood.“ "What is that to us?" they replied. "That's your responsibility.“ 5 So Judas threw the money into the temple and left. Then he went away and hanged himself.

WHAT HAPPENS TO OUR LIVES WHEN TEMPTATION WINS? 4. It makes us feel like ______________ 5. It leads to a ______________ HYPOCRITES HARD HEART

II Chronicles 36:11-12 Zedekiah was twenty-one years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem eleven years. 12 He did evil in the eyes of the LORD his God and did not humble himself before Jeremiah the prophet, who spoke the word of the LORD.

II Chronicles 36:13-14 He also rebelled against King Nebuchadnezzar, who had made him take an oath in God's name. He became stiff-necked and hardened his heart and would not turn to the LORD, the God of Israel. Furthermore, all the leaders of the priests and the people became more and more unfaithful, following all the detestable practices of the nations and defiling the temple of the LORD, which he had consecrated in Jerusalem.

WHAT HAPPENS TO OUR LIVES WHEN TEMPTATION WINS? 4. It makes us feel like ______________ 5. It leads to a ______________ 6. It deflates our power to ________________ HYPOCRITES HARD HEART SHARE CHRIST

I Timothy 3:1, 7 THE SAYING is true and irrefutable: If any man [eagerly] seeks the office of bishop (superintendent, overseer), he desires an excellent task (work). 7 Furthermore, he must have a good reputation and be well thought of by those outside [the church], lest he become involved in slander and incur reproach and fall into the devil's trap.

HOW TO HELP TEMPTATION LOSE 1. You and I can stop ________________ When people are tempted, they should not say, ‘God is tempting me’. Evil cannot tempt God, and God himself does not tempt anyone. But people are tempted when their own evil desire leads them away and traps them. This desire leads to sin, and then the sin grows and brings death. James 1:13-15 BLAMING GOD

HOW TO HELP TEMPTATION LOSE 2. Believe you have the power to _________ But remember this – the wrong desires that come into your life aren’t anything new and different. Many others have faced exactly the same problems before you. And no temptation is irresistible. SAY NO

HOW TO HELP TEMPTATION LOSE You can trust God to keep the temptation from becoming so strong that you can’t stand up against it, for He has promised this and will do what He says. He will show you how to escape temptation’s power so that you can bear up patiently against it. 1 Corinthians 10:13

HOW TO HELP TEMPTATION LOSE 3. Acknowledge that temptation produces ______________ Dear Brothers, is your life full of difficulties and temptations? Then be happy, for when the way is rough, your patience has a chance to grow. So let it grow, and don’t try to squirm out of your problems. For when your patience is finally in full bloom, then you will be ready for anything, strong in character, full and complete. James 1:2-4 CHARACTER

HOW TO HELP TEMPTATION LOSE 4. Be thankful for your ______________________ At first I didn’t think of it as a gift, and begged God to remove it. Three times I did that, and then He told me, “My grace is enough; it’s all you need. My strength comes into its own in your weakness.” SPIRITUAL GROWTH

HOW TO HELP TEMPTATION LOSE Once I heard that, I was glad to let it happen. I quit focusing on the handicap and began appreciating the gift. It was a case of Christ’s strength moving in on my weakness. Now I take limitations in stride, and with good cheer, these limitations that cut me down to size – abuse, accidents, opposition, bad breaks. I just let Christ take over! And so the weaker I get, the stronger I become. 2 Corinthians 12:8-10
