Power verbs

Power Verb! : Analyze …Hmmm…that means to break it down to figure it out! I can do that ! Analyze the structure of a cell.

Power Verb! : Infer …Hmmm…that means to read between the lines, I can do that ! …Hmmm…that means to read between the lines, or to understand what isn’t stated directly. How may the reader infer that the character was angry?

Describe Power Verb! : I can do that ! …Hmmm…that means to write a detailed account in sequential order.. Describe the night sky as observed by Freak and Max in the novel, The Mighty.

RUVIP What is RUVIP? It is a process of organizing your thoughts and ideas to plan and write a proficient response for ORQs.

R Read the entire question before responding. Reread the question often. U Underline the key words (number words, differences, reasons, ways, things). V Circle the verbs (list, name, tell, identify, give, describe, explain, compare, contrast). List them in the verb column. I Inform with details. Brainstorm ideas, examples, and details that are necessary to answer each part of the question completely. P Write the answer using phrases, pictures, or paragraphs depending on the power verb stated in the question (make a list, write in complete sentences, draw a diagram, chart, or graph).
