Fin Whale By Mathias The whale that is in my picture is a fin whale. The fin whale has a pointed head, a streamlined body and thin flukes. Those things make it a fast swimmer. These are the second largest whales next to the blue whale. They have long grooves on there throat that allow there throat to expand while feeding. Whales with these grooves are called rorquals from the Norwegian word for groove or furrow. Fin whales usually work in pairs to round up and eat schools of fish. Scientists sometimes identify them by their pattern of callosities. They can be more than fifty feet and weigh more than seventy tons. This is a Right whale.
