Vocabulary dimensional analysis – the process of including units of measurement when computing

Concept

Example 3 Convert Measurements Between Systems A. Convert 3 liters to cups. Round to the nearest hundredth. You have to convert liters to cups, but there is no conversion rate for liters to cups, so you need to use 1 liter ≈ pints and 1 pint = 2 cups. Convert from liters to pints and then pints to cups. Divide out common units, leaving cups. Simplify. 3 L ≈ ≈ cups Answer: So, 3 liters is approximately cups. 3 L 1 x pt 1 L x 2 c 1 pt

Example 3 Convert Measurements Between Systems B. Convert 7 kilometers to feet. Use 1 km = 1000 m and 1 m ≈ ft. Divide out common units, leaving feet. Simplify. Answer: So, 7 kilometers is approximately 22,953 feet. 7 km ≈ 7 km 1 x 1000 m 1 km x ft 1 m ≈ 22,953 feet

Example 3 A mm B mm C.2032 mm D.3.89 mm A. About how many millimeters are equal to 8 inches?

Example 3 A.602 lbs B.78,571 lbs C.6.02 lbs D lbs B. About how many pounds are equal to 2750 grams?
