NFTE Business Plan Competition Exploring Careers Curriculum Location: Blackham Middle School Bridgeport, CT Teacher: Tanesha Poyser

The program took place October May 2011, with a total of seven 6 th graders.

Students worked together in teams and created businesses. There was a total of three (3) businesses Star Pillowz, Crazy Chocolate Creations & Chris & Joes Sweets to Go.

Concepts Covered: Career Clusters Opportunity Recognition Types of Business Business, Personal & Educational Goals Marketing

Each team presented their business ideas to a panel of judges.

Question & Answer Session

Students were encouraged to incorporate different promotional tactics in their presentation. One team raffled a sample of their product & used a mascot.

Students were awarded using the following categories: Best Marketing Best Business Pitch Most Innovative Idea

One of the judges won a star pillow!
