MEET DEPARTMENT CHAIR Discuss during 1 st semester… According to policy you need: - Promotion Policy & Manual, - Unit’s Promotion Criteria, - One or more mentor(s).

PLAN AHEAD - - Identify mentors. - Set mutual goals, evaluate annually. - Know where to publish in your field. - Get to know players in your field. - Work on good teaching practices. - Choose service commitments wisely.

GET TO KNOW YOUR TERRITORY - Learn culture of institution & department. - Establish connections within department. - Find out spoken and unspoken expectations of junior faculty. - Become familiar with tenure process. When I came up…
