Presented to University Senate Deanna Sellnow & Kaveh Tagavi November 9, 2009

 To introduce QEP  Deliberate & transparent process  To propose a rough QEP timeline  To propose a pre- planning team (1 st of 4 work groups in the process)

 Quality Enhancement Plan  A core requirement for SACS Reaffirmation of Accreditation:  “... a carefully designed course of action that addresses a well-defined and focused topic or issue related to enhancing student learning. The QEP should be embedded within the institution’s ongoing integrated institution- wide planning and evaluation process...” (SACS Handbook for Reaffirmation of Accreditation, 2007, p. 3)

 To make the SACS reaffirmation of accreditation process less prescriptive and...  To give more control to institutions. Why is a QEP now a SACS Core requirement?

 Previously, we prepared a comprehensive self-study to demonstrate compliance by responding to...  463 MUST statements.  Now, we respond to...  53 comprehensive standards  to earn compliance certification.  Part I (Compliance Report) Due: Sept  Part II (QEP) Due: Jan How?

(1) includes a broad-based institutional process identifying a key issue emerging from institutional assessment, (2) focuses on learning outcomes and/or the environment supporting student learning and accomplishing the mission of the institution, (3) demonstrates institutional capability for the initiation, implementation, and completion of the QEP, (4) includes broad-based involvement of institutional constituencies in the development and proposed implementation of the QEP, and (5) identifies goals and a plan to assess their achievement. (SACS Core Requirement 2.12)

 “Do the Right Thing: A Campus Conversation on Ethics” (Texas Tech Univ.)  “Enhancing Student Learning Through Improved Advising” (Louisiana State Univ.)

 Present the QEP as merely “another SACS hoop to jump through”  Impose a QEP topic from the top down  Submit a QEP topic that describes initiatives already fully realized  Try to do too much

1. Select the topic. 2. Define student learning outcomes. 3. Research the topic. 4. Identify actions to be implemented. 5. Establish an implementation timeline. 6. Describe the infrastructure for implementation and continuation of the QEP. 7. Identify resources. 8. Assess goal attainment. 9. Submit QEP document: January Submit Impact Report: December 2017.
