FINAL RESEARCH ESSAY By:Brittany Teets

What's Better For Athletes Water or Sports Drinks?  For many years people have wanted to know that answer.  There has been many different opinions over the years.  Which one is healthier?  Which one hydrates better?

Water  We all know that water is the most natural source of hydration.  It’s the cheapest to buy.  It’s less expensive then sports drinks.  Water is also more available to us.

Sports Drinks  The most popular are Gatorade and Powerade.  They give your carbohydrates and electrolyte boost.  Give good hydration while being active.  Especially efficient when you lose sweat.

What Makes Sports Drinks Better Than Water?  Sports drinks include extra ingredients that water cannot provide athletes.  Water can only be used to hydrate you when you have only been working out for a hour or less.

What is Good About Electrolytes  When working out you need to replenish your electrolytes while being active.  Why do they replenish?  Bodys hydration  Bodys nerves  Bodys muscles

Why water is not effective as sports drinks  Because people don’t drink enough water to get hydrated.  Water is very bland tasting so people stop drinking it before their body is hydrated.

Why do we pick sports drinks over water?  Sports drinks have color which get your attention as to a clear drink.  The drinks have flavor and are not bland  That makes you keep drinking Because you have flavor and its not bland

Why do Sports Drinks Get Our Attention?  Well a main reason is because of who these products have sponsoring them.  The worlds greatest athletes sponsor these drinks.  They make commercials with them in it to grab young kids attention and make them believe they can do it too if they drink the product.

Why do you keep on drinking sports drinks.  Well like I have mentioned because they taste good is one.  Also because they don’t quench your thirst they actually make your thirsty.  Therefore you keep on drinking which makes you hydrated faster.

Conclusion Sports drinks and water are equally good for athletes when performing. The difference is how much you intake of the drinks and how long you work out for will change the decision on what to drink.

Which is More Appealing to You?
