The City of Kettering’s location Montgomery County, Ohio Near the center of the Miami River Valley Five miles south of Dayton

The area that is now Kettering was first settled in 1798 as an agricultural community. HISTORY OF KETTERING

Status Current The earliest known settler in Kettering was John Patterson. He built the area’s first log cabin.

Related Documents In 1841, Van Buren township was created. In November of 1952, the citizens of Van Buren township voted to incorporate into the village of Kettering.

The village of Kettering was named in honor of its most outstanding citizen, Charles Kettering. Mr. Kettering was a world famous inventor.

In 1955, the village gained city status by reaching a population of over 38,000. The city operates under a Council / City Manager form of government.

The city council is comprised of seven representatives who are elected to four year terms. The city’s mayor is also elected to a four year term.
