Mike Mazzalongo #2 - A Faithful New Testament Church

Our objective is to be faithful…...growth comes from FAITH.

Our Goal: FAITHFUL New Testament church.

What will it take? 1.Know who you are. A. Historically (Restoration)

1.Know who you are. A. Historically B. Theologically (Bible is Sole Inspired Authority) What will it take?

It is this history and theology that makes us unique in the religious world and unites us.

We follow Jesus as a New Testament church.

Two Important Questions: 1. What is your present type? 2. What type do you want to become?

What will it take? 1. Know Who you are. 2. Know How to be a Faithful N.T. Church.

Therefore I, the prisoner of the Lord, implore you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling with which you have been called, 2 with all humility and gentleness, with patience, showing tolerance for one another in love, Eph. 4:1-2

3 being diligent to preserve the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. 4 There is one body and one Spirit, just as also you were called in one hope of your calling; Eph. 4:3-4

5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism, 6 one God and Father of all who is over all and through all and in all. Eph. 4:5-6

A faithful N.T. church lives and breathes by these guidelines.

But to each one of us grace was given according to the measure of Christ’s gift. Eph. 4:7

Therefore it says, “WHEN HE ASCENDED ON HIGH, HE LED CAPTIVE A HOST OF CAPTIVES, AND HE GAVE GIFTS TO MEN.” Eph. 4:8

9 (Now this expression, “He ascended,” what does it mean except that He also had descended into the lower parts of the earth? Eph. 4:9

10 He who descended is Himself also He who ascended far above all the heavens, so that He might fill all things. Eph. 4:10

A faithful N.T. church is not ashamed of naming Christ as Lord.

11 And He gave some as apostles, and some as prophets, and some as evangelists, and some as pastors and teachers, Eph. 4:11

for the equipping of the saints for the work of service, to the building up of the body of Christ; Eph. 4:12

A N.T. church understands the work of these men is to use their gifts to help the church to grow spiritually.

Evangelists: Plant, Organize, Develop, Proclaim

Elders: Guard, Lead, Minister to the flock

Teachers: Grow the church’s knowledge of God’s Word.

Deacons: Manage the Ministry to the church.

until we all attain to the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a mature man, to the measure of the stature which belongs to the fullness of Christ. Eph. 4:13

As a result, we are no longer to be children, tossed here and there by waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, by craftiness in deceitful scheming; Eph. 4:14

but speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in all aspects into Him who is the head, even Christ, Eph. 4:15

This is what a N.T. church looks like and how it acts.

What will it take? 1. Know who you are. 2. Know how to be a Faithful N.T. Church. 3. You must each be changed.

So this I say, and affirm together with the Lord, that you walk no longer just as the Gentiles also walk, in the futility of their mind, Eph. 4:17

being darkened in their understanding, excluded from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the hardness of their heart; Eph. 4:18

and they, having become callous, have given themselves over to sensuality for the practice of every kind of impurity with greediness. Eph. 4:19

But you did not learn Christ in this way, if indeed you have heard Him and have been taught in Him, just as truth is in Jesus, Eph. 4:20-21

that, in reference to your former manner of life, you lay aside the old self, which is being corrupted in accordance with the lusts of deceit, Eph. 4:22

and that you be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and put on the new self, which in the likeness of God has been created in righteousness and holiness of the truth. Eph. 4:23-24

The road to achieving the twin goals of fidelity and growth runs through the heart of each individual member.

So what have we learned?  Know your History & Theology.  Know how to remain faithful.  Know that each must be changed.

Remember… Nothing changes unless a change is made, and the first change begins with me!
