Welcome to Geneva Conclusion (Izmir 2011) 1.More documentation to go out ahead of meeting 2.More time for discussion, less time for lectures 3.More feedback re UEMS Council and the UEMS Sections & Boards meetings in Brussels?

More documentation to go out ahead of meeting Minutes Meeting Vilnius 2012 What does the UEMS do for me? UEMS Newsletter 2013 UEMS General Secretary annual report for 2012 Subspecialty group logbooks Internal Memorandum 2013 Explanatory note functioning of UEMS Structures final – Aug 2013 UEMS Statutes (UEMS & UEMS ) UEMS National Association Members 2013

More time for discussion, less time for lectures This meeting predominantly given over to future organisation of UEMS ORL/relations of UEMS ORL and CEORL In this discussion there will be the opportunity to debate/vote on the way things are organised in the future

More feedback re UEMS Council and the UEMS Sections & Boards meetings in Brussels? UEMS accounts/sub-accounts Annual report of the UEMS Secretary General Action on Healthcare Workforce Planning Competence based training Mandatory CPD

UEMS accounts/sub-accounts UEMS Annual Accounts from membership fees is approx 250K Euro BUT EACCME income is over 1000K Euro Functioning of UEMS Accounts managed by UEMS S&B’s (Current ORL plan – Belgian account for EACCME fees, Swiss account for membership fees. In the longer term ? Not possible)

UEMS General Secretary annual report for 2012 Last year – “Opening date for Domus Medica Apr 2013” – this year refused planning permission! Aim for “greater contact with Specialist Sections and Boards” Lobbying – Professional Qualification Directive, EU Joint Action on Healthcare Workforce Planning & Forecasting UEMS now ‘large organisation’ (subscriptions 250K Euro, budget > 1 mill Euro) – designation requires greater accountability/greater external audit/ now VAT registered CESMA has developed an initiative regarding visitation of European exams to enhance quality

Action on Healthcare Workforce Planning The UEMS has been included as an active partner within the EU Joint Action on Healthcare Workforce Planning and forecasting (notoriously difficult in UK experience). A project for the EU over and they plan to produce an EU Handbook with information about mobility. UEMS is participating in the areas of data collection and horizon scanning

Competence based training Professional Qualification Directive had its first reading in the Internal Market Committee of the European Parliament in January Article 25 of this directive is now proposed to provide for specialist training to be of no less than 5 years and include areas of competence to be fulfilled

Mandatory CPD In the Professional Qualification Directive Article 22 relates to continued Education and training. UEMS position statement: It is essential, in order to ensure patient safety and effective practice, to establish a dialogue on CPD within the EU for the purpose of optimising Member States’ CPD systems. To achieve this, the EU must establish a network to support harmonisation and co-operation between Member States to: Exchange information on, and best practice in CPD Promote CPD to ensure patient safety and the safe and effective practice of health professionals

The Rest of Today Chairs of sub-specialty groups to present current drafts of logbooks Report on EBEORL 6.30pm – short wine tasting session Gala Dinner –walking distance jacket, ?tie
