National Anti-Racism Strategy Objectives o create awareness of racism and how it affects individuals and the broader community o identify, promote and build on good practice initiatives to prevent and reduce racism o empower communities and individuals to take action to prevent and reduce racism and to seek redress when it occurs

Racism. It Stops with Me Aims to: o ensure more Australians recognise that racism is unacceptable in our community o create tools and resources to take practical action against racism o empower individuals and organisations to prevent and respond effectively to racism

Campaign supporters Currently more than 350 organisational supporters across education, business, sport, community and local government sectors.

Campaign supporters – local government Local government is a priority area for the campaign. We currently have 64 local government supporters.

Why support the campaign? Sends a message that you support tolerance and diversity –Leadership Helps to start a conversation about racism and cultural diversity Use the campaign as a tool for social cohesion –City of Greater Bendigo –Maitland City Council

What can you do? Council’s have been among the most active of campaign supporters. Various activities can be undertaken (see next slides) Questions to think about: Who is the audience? (staff, community) What is the goal? (raising awareness, systemic change, victim support or redress)
