SWG on agro-food processing Presentation of region and cluster activities PP6 ITDH (HU) Sofia, Bulgaria / 25th November 2010

Analysis of logistics cluster / sector in the region of PP6 (WP3) -In the food-processing industry, the Hungarian SMEs are in a terrible situation -Divided interests of producers and food-processing companies (trade intermediaries, international traders) -The Hungarian food basic /raw material is too expensive for the food-processing companies -Export is still bigger than the import (but import is increasing faster) -After the socialist period mamut companies have been decentralised, but after again have been merged (i.e.: meat industry contains only 6 big companies) -After joining the EU, there are more but low quality foods -New technologies, innovation and quality work -Looking for long term only those foods are competitive that have been processed on high quality and containing big added value are -The own good marketing is necessary, a good food-processing company has good quality in third, good selling policy in other third and the good financial policy too -Food-processing industry imports 10% of basic materials from abroad -Good opportunities for SMEs (i.e.: bio food)
