This farmer works in the Windward Islands in the Caribbean. This green fruit has been growing on tall plants for about twelve months. The farmer is picking big bunches of the fruit. © Simon Rawles

What fruit is it? What colour is it normally when we buy it? Are bananas a healthy food? © 2008 Jupiterimages Corporation

This woman works in Uganda. Shes checking to see if the berries on these plants are ready to pick. The seeds inside the berries – called beans – will be washed, dried, sorted, roasted, ground, and then packaged. © Simon Rawles

Lots of people love to dissolve this product in hot water to make a hot drink. What do you think it is? Do you like coffee? How often do you drink it? © 2008 Jupiterimages Corporation

This woman works in Mali. Shes filling a basket with white fibres that grow around the seeds of these plants. The fibres will be spun into thread, which is used to make cloth. © Simon Rawles

Lots of your clothes, sheets and towels at home are probably made out of this material. What do you think it is? Check the labels on your clothes to see if any of them are made out of cotton. © 2008 Jupiterimages Corporation

This man works in Malaysia. Hes picking the leaves from these long rows of plants. The leaves will be sold to factories, where other workers will dry and sort them. Then theyll put the dried leaves into boxes. © eycool – Fotolia.com

You can put these leaves – often inside little bags – into hot water to make a very popular drink. Some people have it with milk and sugar. What do you think it is? Does anyone in your family drink tea? © 2008 Jupiterimages Corporation

This man works in Brazil. There are lots of fields like this in Brazil. The plants can measure up to six metres! The man is cutting down the stalks. These stalks, or canes, will be washed, chopped, shredded, mixed with water and crushed to release a juice.

This juice is used to make a very, very sweet food. People add it to other foods to make them taste better. What do you think it is? What other foods contain sugar? © Ljupco Smokovski – Fotolia.com

This man works in Venezuela. Hes picking fruit from one of the cacao trees on his farm. Then hell open the pods and take out the beans inside.

Lots of people love the food that we can make from these cacao beans. What do you think it is? What is your favourite kind of chocolate? © 2008 Jupiterimages Corporation

This man is working up a tree in Sri Lanka! Hes climbing this palm tree to reach the fruit at the top of it. Palm trees can sometimes grow to be over 20 metres tall. It doesnt look easy, does it? © Yogeetha Aenakshi – Fotolia.com

The fruit has a very hard shell and is white inside. What do you think it is? Have you ever eaten a coconut? © 2008 Jupiterimages Corporation

This farmer works in England. Hes driving a combine harvester. First he sowed seeds in the field, then he waited for them to grow, and now hes harvesting wheat. © 2008 Jupiterimages Corporation

Some of the foods that we can buy in shops and supermarkets are made with wheat. Can you think of one that lots of people eat every day for lunch? How much bread did you eat yesterday? © 2008 Jupiterimages Corporation

This woman works in China. Shes working in a field called a paddy field. The plants shes harvesting only grow properly with lots of water and hard work. © Digitalpress – Fotolia.com
