 GPS stands for … ◦ Global Positioning System  What’s the history of GPS? ◦ Military purposes  How many Earth-orbiting satellites are in operation? ◦ 27 (24 in operation / 3 in case one fails)

 Handheld, non-mapping GPS unit  High sensitive GPS receiver / waterproof  Memory stores up to 500 “waypoints”  Can create your own routes / maps with location landmarks (idea: fitness running routes, running/hiking route, geocache)

 Geocaching is a real-world, outdoor treasure hunting game using GPS-enabled devices.  Participants navigate to a specific set of GPS coordinates and then attempt to find the geocache (container) hidden at that location. Source:
