3 rd Quarter Journals Answer all journals in a ½ page in complete sentences, reaching the middle hole of your notebook.

Journal 1 If you could change anything about 1 st semester, what would it be? What do you need to do this semester to be successful in English III? What could I (Ms. Bennett) do to help you succeed in English III? If you could choose anything to study, read, or discuss that relates to American literature, what would you choose?

Journal 2 Consider the bevy of awards available to the world’s high achievers: the Nobel Peace Prize for contributing to world peace, the Webby for web design, the Clio for advertising, the Oscar for the film industry, the Tony for theater, the Emmy for television, the Pulitzer Prize for writing, the Grammy for music, the Cy Young for pitching– the list goes on and on. If you could be presented with one of these prestigious awards, which one would you choose? Why? Describe the specific accomplishment that would win you the award.

Journal 3 Is there something you wish your parents knew about you? Is there something you would confess to them if you could? How would you tell them? Do you think you would feel better if they knew?

Journal 4 What do you think makes a good leader? Give an example of a good leader in your life and why they are a good leader.

Journal 5 Describe a character you have recently met in your reading. Why is this character memorable? What are his or her outstanding traits? What problems has the character overcome?

Journal 6 Select one rule in your home or school that you think has failed, and tell why you think so. Then, provide a better rule in its place and explain why it is better.

If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Do you know someone (possibly yourself) who marches to the beat of a different drummer? How does this person live differently from others? Do other people consider this person weird or misguided?
