Asking questions in the past tense

Asking Questions We use question words and Did to make questions. Don’t change the verb after Did. What Where How many red packets did you eat you go you get at Christmas? Easter? Chinese New Year?

Question words Which – we use which to ask for information when there is a choice of several things. Where – we use where to ask about the location. How many – we use how many to ask for the quantity of something.

Examples: Which relatives did you visit? I visited my cousins. Where did you go at Easter? I went to church. How many red packets did you get? I got twenty red packets.

Asking Questions You can also ask questions starting with Did. Don’t change the verb after Did. Did you sing carols go to church visit relatives Christmas? Easter? Chinese New Year? at Yes, I did. No, I didn’t.

Past tense We use did not / didn’t to make negative sentences. He ate moon cakes at Mid-Autumn Festival. did not He did not eat moon cakes at Mid-Autumn Festival. *Don’t change the verb after did not.
