An Era of Change in Education Progress 8 Parents Information Evening

First Entry vs Best Entry Wolf report stated that only students first entry in examinations would count in school performance tables. CCHS – We will continue to make the right decisions for our students NOT for the performance tables. We will publish a separate set of performance tables based on our ‘Best Entry’

New GCSE’s Current Yr10’s – All old GCSE’s (A*-G) Current Yr9’s – New GCSE Maths and English (9-1 Grade) and all other GCSE’s (A*-G) Current Yr 8’s – All new GCSE’s (Grades 9-1)

What’s different for the new GCSE’s? All Linear (examined at the end of the course – no modular exams) They will be ‘harder’ They will be graded 9-1 as opposed to A*-G

Changes to how schools are measured A*-C Including English and Maths Will now be replaced by: Attainment 8 and Progress 8

QualificationGrade Maths GCSE4 English Language GCSE4 English Literature GCSE6 Core Science GCSE6 Geography GCSE5 GCSE Media Studies5 GCSE French5 GCSE Design Technology4 GCSE Drama5 Maths 8 4 x 2 English 12 EBacc 16 Other Attainment 8 Score = = 50 6 x 2

Whole School Average Attainment 8 Score Pupil A – 50 Pupil B – 44 Pupil C – 72 Total = 166/3 = 55.3

What’s the difference between Attainment 8 and Progress 8?

Progress 8 Previous student scored 50 Expected to get 48 Progress 8 = +0.2 Therefore they get a + Progress 8 score! A +1.0 = Excellent! Primary School Test Scores (KS2 English/Maths) You’re estimated Attainment 8 Score Example: 48

How will I know my child’s progress 8 predictions? 4 updates throughout the year (mixture of data and written reports) The reports will show you what subjects sit in each basket and their point score for each basket You will get a predicted ‘Progress 8’ Score.

Why are we so happy about these new measures? Progress 8 takes into account the progress of all students – not just C/D borderline We make excellent progress with our students, this measure will demonstrate this and allow us to fully embrace our school vision.
