2006 Institutional Self-Study Report: 2 General Editorial Issues  The materials submitted by each of the 9 Standards committees will be edited for: Style (one “voice”) Volume (individual and collective) Focus (proportionality: themes and emphases)  The report will be an analytical document (not a traditional academic book) Presentation matters Use professional-looking graphics  Save space (convey detailed information)  Efficient and Effective General ratio of 1 graphic (figure, table) per 2 pages

2006 Institutional Self-Study Report: General Structure of the “Body”  190 pages total, or less Letter of Transmittal (1 page) Executive Summary (4 pgs.) 2006 Institutional Self-Study Report: Content Focus Guidelines  20% of allocated space should be devoted to each of the following functions: Clarifying the relationship of the Standard to  BYU’s Aims, Mission, and Objectives  Purposeful & Effective Improvement  Serving With Integrity in a Changing World Presenting material that shows compliance with NWCCU documentation requirements Demonstrating how BYU “shines” in standard Analyzing where and why BYU intends to improve Projecting “next” steps  Not five discrete sections, but rather an overall distribution within the chapter  Comply – Analyze - Project

The Visit  Day 0 - April 4, :00 p.m. pre-visit meeting  Day 1 - April 5, 2006 Introductory Meeting Evaluation Activities Lunch with Board of Trustees Private Committee Meeting  Day 2 - April 6, 2006 Evaluation Activities Private Committee Meeting  Day 3 - April 7, 2006 Final Private Committee Meeting Chair Meets with President Exit Meeting

Reflection and Evaluation (questions evaluators ask themselves)  Is institutional mission fulfilled?  Are intended institutional, program, and learning outcomes implied or stated?  Are achievements assumed or assessed?  Are outcomes achieved?  How do we know?  What do we have as evidence?

How will the team do this work?  Read the Self-Study report  Ask questions of board members, administrators, faculty, staff, and students  Review exhibits A room is to be prepared with exhibits that serve as supplements to the Self-Study report. There are required and suggested exhibits listed in the accreditation handbook. The exhibits need to have been referenced in the report. The team members will look at exhibits where either the narrative or the interviews have raised questions.  Look at facilities

Commission Actions  Grant Candidacy/Accreditation  Reaffirm Accreditation  Continue Candidacy  Request Progress Report(s)  Request Focused Interim Report(s)/Visit(s)  Remove Warning/Probation/Show-Cause  Defer Action  Issue/Continue Warning  Impose/Continue Probation  Issue/Continue Show-Cause  Terminate Accreditation
