Gap Areas between Bangladesh and Nepal Katmandu Dhaka Nepal has National Emergency Operation Center (NEOC) In Bangladesh, we do not have any full fledged Emergency Operation Center (EOC). Less number high-rise buildings in Nepal .Only 12 High –rise building (16 storied building ) Mushrooming of high-rise buildings. Number of open spaces are more in Nepal which are currently used as shelters Less number of open spaces   Nepal has approved National Dead Body Management Act which was legal support in this earthquake disaster Need to develop and approve such act Old building Code 1980. People tend to ignore the building code while constructing new buildings in Nepal. BNBC-1993. People tend to ignore the building code while constructing new buildings in Bangladesh.  . Gap Areas in Bangladesh following the context of Nepal Earthquake:

Gap Areas between Bangladesh and Nepal Katmandu Dhaka There is no database of Community Volunteers in Nepal Maintain Database of Community Volunteers  No Industrial area Have number of Industrial area(Garments factory, chemical factory ,boiler etc) No Designated team .  FSCD having Designated USAR Team No Inter operable communication System No Inter operable communication system Retrofit is done in some KPI Not done Insufficient USAR equipments Insufficient USAR Equipments Lack of awareness, drill and practice Lack of awareness ,drill and practice No back up power supply No back up communication system

Why was the Earthquake in Nepal on Saturday so deadly High magnitude-7.8 on the Richter Scale (Most powerful in the region Shallow Hypocenter - Only 11 km below the Ground Cause landslide and Avalanches Significance After shock up to 6.7 on the Richter scale Very old and poor construction Not following the building code(Old building code NNBC-1980) Lack of Quick Response Measurably fail to asses the damage Fail to make the NEOC functional Fail to Organize SAR team Shortage of SAR equipments Lack of Coordination among the stake holder Unplanned relief operation RDC Fail to mobilize the foreign team quickly (custom clearance) Bad weather Fail to clear the supply road in time which delayed to decentralize the resources

Positive aspect of Nepal Earthquake 25Aril was holiday all school ,college ,university n and offices were closed. No Fire from gas or electricity Earth quake happened on day time Nepal does not have any industrial area Shallow lequiffication happened as because of earth structure There was no heavy traffic in the mobile communication after the earthquake Nepal government provided free international and local phone calls for the first one week. The earthquake was not stronger than the seismologist expected NEOC established on 2009 No commodity price hike Community people are the invaluable assets during any Crisis. Retrofit building have performed well.
