Books that Made a Difference to Madison Fox 12/17/2013

Reading has always been one of those things that I liked to do but never did it enough. I have always had a weird relationship with books I either was going through a phase where I could not put a book down or I didn’t dare pick one up. When I was in my “can’t put it down” phase I would love series. I always have had a preference to fiction because it would capture me so much better. By having to use my imagination and decide what they character looked like and how their voice sounded it made me enjoy the book so much more. I find that I tend to read more those typical teen girl love story books. Introduction

Lock and Key by Sarah Dessen This book is about a girl whose mother abandons her and leaves her to live by herself. After living alone for moths her situation is discovered and is forced to move in with her sister she has not spoke to in 10 years. After changing her whole life for the better she still longs for her old life. I read this book when I was going through a change I in my life I was switching schools and I found that even though I was looking forward to it because I knew it would be better in the long run I still wanted my old school. I wanted to be with my friends and walk through the halls and not worry about being lost in these new big hallways.

The Help by Kathryn Stockett This book is about a group of black women who work as maids for these young white families. It is all about them coming together to write a book from all there own personal experiences. The book then becomes extremely famous and the women must fight to keep their identities a secret. This book made me fall in love with reading the struggle these women went through just makes you want to help. I would recommend this book to everyone because it has to be the best book I have ever read.

The Diary of a Young Girl by Anne Frank This is the real diary of a young Jewish girl who was alive during the holocaust. Anne Frank went into hiding with her family and four other people during the war. This diary was her only way to communicate what was going on while her family was in hiding. She was in hiding for more than 2 years before they were betrayed and the police came for them. The reason this book makes a difference to me is that my family was greatly impacted by the holocaust. My grandfather is a Jew from Poland and actually lost a great number of family members over there. After all the dust settled over there my grandfather returned to see if he could locate any family but all he found was some luggage in one of the concentration camps. Everything to do with the holocaust fascinates me and I want to learn as much about as I can because that is a piece of me. My grandfather doesn’t like to talk about what they went through over there and that just makes me wonder even more what it was like during this awful time.
