United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland ( the UK ). It is the official name of the country which is situated on the British Isles.

The UK consists of four parts: England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Landscape of Great Britain. Great Britain is the name of the largest island of the British Isles. Geographically it is divided into two main regions: Highland Britain in the North and West and Lowland Britain in the East and South.

Mountains. The Highlands of Scotland are among the oldest mountains in the world. The highest mountain is called Ben Nevis. It is 1343 m. high.

Wales. Wales is a highland part of old hard rocks. It is a country of mountains and deep valleys. Cambrians are situated there.

Cumbrian Mountains. The highest peak of the Cumbrian Mountains is Snowdon. It is 1085 metres high. The pride of Wales is Snowdonia, a region of high mountains.

Mountains in England. In the North of England there are The Pennines. It is the largest mountain chain in Great Britain.

LAKE DISTRICT. The pride of England is Lake District, a very popular place for spending holidays.

LOWLANDS. The southern and the eastern parts of England are called Lowlands. Lowlands consists of Vast plains and Valleys. It has a mild climate. It is never very cold or very hot. There is steady rainfall most of the year.

The country is washed by the Atlantic ocean, the North Sea, the Irish Sea, The English Channel and The Strait of Dover.

RIVERS. The chief rivers of Great Britain are: the Severn, the Avon, the Thames, The Clyde.

There are many lakes in Great Britain.
